Hi, Is Myra Maine's There?

Saturday evening as I was visiting my family in South Jordan, it was close to midnight when I received a very interesting phone call. My cousin and I were messing around on her computer when the call came in. I had no idea who the number was, or where they might be calling from. I answer the phone and it turns out the number was a call forwarding service. How odd, I thought.

Conversation goes like this: "Hello, Is this Liberty Williams I am speaking with?" "Yes, this is her." "Liberty, I am with a call forwarding service and we have received a phone call from a third party and have a phone number and name that you need to contact." "Yes, okay?" "Do you have a piece of paper you can write the number and name down?" I frantically get a piece of paper and pen... "Yes, I'm ready." They give me the number (which they tell me is a St. George number) and name, I write down the name Myra Maine's. I think to myself who in the heck is Myra Maine's, mind you, I said it out loud even? I try to ask if they have any other information, they have none, again they are just a "call forwarding service." I immediately get off the phone and tell my cousin the situation. She reminds me of what time at night it is, yet I still go ahead and make the phone call. I dial the number, after two rings the voice on the other end say's, "Metcalf Mortuary" I say, "Hi, Is Myra Maine's there?" Immediately the voice on the other end say's no and hangs up. I then continue for a moment to say "Hello, Hello." As my cousin is listening it clicks for her that I just called a mortuary and asked for my remains!!!! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME! I then immediately, at midnight call my parents family friend who works for Metcalf Mortuary thinking that he set me up for this little sneaky prank. I wake him from a dead sleep - no pun intended, and ask him if he put me up to this. I tell him my story and before I am even finished he say's "Libby, do you know who "Myra Maine's" is?" I DO NOW! As I'm on the phone with him I get another call, it's the "call forwarding service" I tell my friend goodbye so that I can get to the bottom of this whole prank, that I fell for... I answer the phone and the voice comes on and asks, "Is this Liberty Williams?" "Yes!" "This is the call forwarding service, and we are just calling to make sure you were able to make the phone call." Then, on the other end of the phone I hear the roar of laughter! My dear friend, Miss Audra B. and her dear family (Audra's brother in law, DAN, who LOVES to tease me) in Southern California, who is so wonderful and good to me had done the whole set up! They had such a good laugh, and I am so grateful that I could provide them with that as I was up in Northern Utah.

The moral of this story, I'm what people may call gullible (the dictionary defines gullible as easily deceived or cheated), or it's just that I am a natural dumb blonde (dumb blonde: lacking in both common street-sense and academic intelligence, as per wikipedia.). My thoughts on the situation - it was late at night, and I have a lot on my plate, so that is why it didn't quite click for me. You decide!

I think I feel most terrible for Metcalf Mortuary because they probably get that all the time, plus it was late at night. Not fun for them.

Yeah, I didn't get it at first either. I'd never heard that one before. Great joke!

This is Dan and I am responsible for the whole matter and joke. And yet you do not even mention me. You give Audra the credit. If I am not given credit on your blog I will not ever talk to you again.

It took me a second to figure it out too, but I still don't think you should call people at midnight! Don't ever call me at midnight.

I just want to mention that right after this happened to her she came and woke me up and told me the story. As soon as she told me she asked for "Myra Maines" I figured out that it was really my remains. So I think Libby is very blonde and gullible, because I was half asleep and I got the joke.
